Dental Implants

How Does a Dental Implant Work?
Dental implants are a long-lasting tooth replacement that provides a stable foundation for chewing, speaking, and smiling confidently. By integrating with your jawbone, an implant stops bone loss, protects remaining teeth, and supports facial structure to avoid a sunken or aged appearance.
A dental implant is an innovative tooth replacement consisting of three pieces:
- The Implant Post — An implant is a small screw-like post our periodontist places surgically in the jawbone. Over the next several months, bone and tissue surround and fuse with the post as it heals, known as osseointegration, creating a strong foundation for a replacement tooth, such as a crown, bridge, or denture.
- The Abutment — After implant healing, we attach a small connector called an abutment to the top of the implant post, connecting the implant to the replacement tooth.
- The Restoration — In the final step, we securely attach a custom crown, bridge, or denture to the abutment. Our dental lab customizes your restoration to match the color, shape, and size of surrounding teeth for a seamless, natural-looking result.
Our dental implant team, led by board-certified periodontist Dr. Tina Jung and restorative dentist Dr. Sheila Mahooti, is committed to providing personalized solutions that cater to your needs.
