Dr. Mahooti smiling with patient, encino caAt Signature Smiles of LA, we want to be your destination dentist for all your needs. While visiting the dentist can sometimes feel intimidating, you can trust you are in a safe space with caring, respectful professionals.

General Dentistry in Encino, CA

  • Preventive Care — During your six-month checkup and dental cleaning, we’ll carefully examine your teeth and gums, take digital x-rays if needed, and remove plaque and tartar buildup to keep your smile healthy. These routine services help prevent cavities, gum disease, and other issues from progressing, ensuring you maintain your oral health over the long term.

  • Restorative Care — From tooth-colored fillings and crowns to dental implants, we can restore your smile’s function and aesthetics. If you are a young adult who needs wisdom teeth removed, our dedicated oral surgeon has the expertise to handle the process comfortably and efficiently. If you grind your teeth or brush too hard and have developed lesions or "notches" near the gumline, we can use tooth-colored bonding material to restore the tooth's shape, prevent further damage, and relieve tooth sensitivity.

  • Specialized Gum Care — Our dental team includes an experienced periodontist who treats a range of gum-related oral health issues with specialized services such as deep cleanings, gum grafting, laser gum surgery, and cosmetic gum contouring.

Testimonial

Signature Smiles is a modern, clean, and high-tech office.

Signature Smiles is a modern, clean, and high-tech office with a great dentist and a friendly and very professional staff. A few days ago, I got a checkup and a cleaning. This was my second session with the very skilled dental hygienist (Olivia) who did a great job cleaning my teeth, and made me feel good by complimenting my ‘super-clean’ teeth (her words, not mine, but made me laugh). The front office administrative person (Sophia) is quite pleasant and seems to have all the answers. Last year, I got a chip on my right top front tooth fixed, and a crown on a tooth that was in danger of breaking from an overwhelmingly large filling. Dr. Mahooti did a great job on both projects. My top right front tooth looks quite natural, very much like my good left tooth. The crown feels good, and it seems built to last.

General Dentistry Technology

Digital X-Rays and Sensors

Digital x-rays are a cornerstone of modern dental diagnostics, providing high-definition images of your teeth and surrounding structures with far less radiation than traditional film x-rays. Signature Smiles of LA uses digital x-rays and sensors to capture detailed images quickly and comfortably. These images allow Dr. Mahooti to accurately diagnose dental issues, plan treatments such as fillings, crowns, and root canals, and monitor your oral health over time. Additionally, digital x-rays are environmentally friendly, as they eliminate the need for chemical processing and are easily stored and shared when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Woman smiling in dentist chair, encino caMaintaining a healthy smile requires regular visits to your dentist, even if you take excellent care of your oral health. Dr. Sheila Mahooti generally recommends a dental exam every six months; however, she may recommend a different frequency based on your unique needs.

The Importance of Regular Checkups

A typical checkup at Signature Smiles of LA typically involves the following steps:

  • Examine Your Teeth and Gums — This thorough examination helps identify early signs of decay, gum disease, or other oral health issues that may require attention. Early detection is key to preventing more serious problems in the future.
  • Perform a Professional Cleaning — Even with diligent brushing and flossing, plaque and tartar can build up in hard-to-reach areas. A professional cleaning removes these deposits, helping to prevent cavities and maintain healthy gums.
  • Provide Personalized Care — Your dentist will tailor advice to your oral health needs, whether it's improving your at-home care routine or recommending additional treatment if necessary.

Some patients may require more frequent checkups: those with a history of gum disease, a tendency toward cavities, or chronic health conditions that affect oral health. Regular visits allow our dentist to monitor changes and adjust your care plan accordingly.

Serving the Encino Community and Beyond

At Signature Smiles of LA, we proudly serve patients from Encino, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Tarzana, Van Nuys, and surrounding areas. If it’s been more than six months since your last visit or you’re experiencing dental concerns, call today to schedule an appointment

For most patients, our dentist in Encino recommends visits every six months for professional teeth cleanings and exams. During these twice-yearly appointments, we take the following steps to help you maintain healthy teeth and gums:

  • Remove harmful plaque and tartar buildup
  • Catch cavities or gum disease in their earliest stages
  • Monitor oral health changes over time
  • Perform oral cancer screenings

Do You Need More Frequent Visits?

The six-month guideline works well for many, but your unique oral health situation might require a different schedule. We may recommend more frequent visits if you:

  • Have active gum disease
  • Show early signs of decay or enamel wear
  • Have a history of frequent cavities
  • Are pregnant
  • Use tobacco products
  • Have certain medical conditions like diabetes

What if I Miss Regular Dental Visits?

Small issues have time to develop into more significant problems when you postpone dental visits. What might have been a simple cleaning can turn into gum disease treatment, and small cavities can grow to require a more extensive procedure to address. Maintaining your regular schedule with your dentist in Encino is the easiest way to avoid these complications.
