Orthodontic treatments can be used to correct many functional and cosmetic dental problems, including crooked or overcrowded teeth, misaligned bite, widely spaced teeth, and overbite/underbite/crossbite. With the wide range of treatment options available, patients don’t have to endure the discomfort and embarrassment of wearing metal braces during treatment.
If you are looking for an alternative to traditional orthodontic treatment to correct widely spaced teeth and improve your smile, then Invisalign treatment may the right option for you. The Invisalign system uses an innovative approach to move your teeth without attaching metal brackets and wires. Instead, Dr. Sheila Mahooti uses a series of clear, removable aligners that are custom-made to gradually move your teeth to the desired position.
Depending on your individual case and the position of your teeth, you may require 6 to 24 months for the completion of the treatment, after which you will be required to wear retainers to keep your teeth from shifting back to their original position.
The Procedure
If you’re a suitable candidate for Invisalign, Dr. Mahooti will take X-rays and digital scans, as well as a dental impression to create your custom treatment plan. These details, as well as the prescribed treatment will be sent to a lab where your personal 3D treatment plan will be designed, and your customized clear aligners fabricated.
On your next appointment, you will receive 3-4 sets of your custom-made aligners to wear every day – for a minimum of 22 hours – and change each set after two weeks. You won’t need to come to the office as often as with metal braces. But a dental visit is recommended every 6-8 weeks to receive the next series of aligners and for Dr. Mahooti to assess the progress of your treatment.
One your Invisalign treatment is complete, you may need to wear retainers to help ensure that your teeth remain in their new position.
Why choose Invisalign?
Clear aligners are just as effective as traditional metal braces for treating wide gaps and other orthodontic problems. However, they offer additional unique benefits of wireless dental treatment, including improved hygiene, aesthetics, comfort, and convenience.
