Digital X-Rays

Digital X-Rays

At our office, we utilize digital x-rays—an advanced technology—to help identify a wide range of dental issues that are not always apparent during a regular exam. Digital imaging is beneficial because it allows the images to be sent directly to a screen rather than waiting extended periods of time for the images to be developed with chemicals in a dark room, like what is required with traditional film images. This means that an accurate view of your dental health is available immediately.

Our staff is able to enhance the images as well, making it easier to spot problems. Digital x-rays even make it easier to compare a previous scan to a current one, so that we can see exactly what has changed in your mouth. We also have the ability to tweak the image so that we can see some of the aspects more clearly. In general, digital x-rays are much more reliable and clear.

As an added benefit, digital x-rays use less radiation. In fact, they use 80% less radiation than traditional x-rays. Although they are safe, you will still wear a leaded apron to minimize radiation exposure.

The frequency of your x-rays depends on many things, including your age, oral health, and your current symptoms. Often, new patients are given digital x-rays so that we can get a current view of your health and development.
