If you are looking for a way to change the shape or color of your teeth, dental bonding may be the best choice for you. Bonding can be an excellent choice for any of the following problems:
- Chipped teeth
- Cracked teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Short teeth
- Spaces between teeth
- Receding gums
- Worn down teeth
What can I expect?
To start the bonding process, any existing decay will be taken out, and the surface of your teeth will be slightly roughened and etched to make for better application. A conditioning liquid is applied to help the bonding material stick to your teeth. Our dentists in Encino
use a shade guide to choose a resin material (a texture similar to putty) that will match the color of your surrounding teeth so that the work looks as natural as possible.
The material is applied and then smoothed and molded to the desired shape in a minimally invasive process. The resin will then be fused to the natural tooth enamel with the use of an ultraviolet light that secures the resin. Once the material has hardened, the finishing touches will be put on to your teeth, minimize and they will be polished. The entire process typically takes 30 minutes to one hour.

How do I care for bonding?
You’ll need to care for your dental bond work just like you would your natural teeth. The resin that is used for bonding is still vulnerable to stains from things like coffee and cigarette smoke. To minimize stains our dentist recommends to avoid these types of substances for the first 48 hours after you have your bonding done. You will need to brush your teeth at least twice per day, and visit every six months for a thorough cleaning and exam to keep your smile in its best shape.
