If you are experiencing wrinkles — more specifically, crow’s feet and frown lines — you might benefit from Botox® Cosmetic injections. This is the only approved injection for moderate to severe frown lines and crow’s feet in adult patients.
How does it work?
Botox® Cosmetic is made from clostridium botulinum, a type of bacterium. It works by targeting the underlying cause of wrinkles, which is the repeated contraction of muscles when you squint, frown, smile, or concentrate. When Botox® Cosmetic is injected into these muscles underneath the skin, their activity is reduced. They are temporarily weakened or paralyzed, and certain nerves are blocked. This allows the frown lines and crow’s feet to smooth over and appear less prominent.
What can I expect?
The actual injection of Botox® Cosmetic takes only approximately ten minutes. The process is not painful—in fact, many patients report only feeling a slight pinch during the injection itself. In most cases, you will begin to notice results from your injection in the first 24 to 48 hours after receiving the treatment.
The number of injections that you will need varies according to the area that is being targeted. For example, frown lines often require five injections in the forehead area. The effects of Botox® Cosmetic can last ranging from about three to 12 months, depending on the treated area. Common side effects of Botox® Cosmetic include bruising, swelling, and pain at the injection site. These side effects are only temporary. Headache, upset stomach and flu-like symptoms are also possible but less common. We are available to answer any questions that you may have about Botox® Cosmetic and its results and side effects.
